  The Society meets on the third Tuesday of the month at the Glebe Centre, Ewhurst, at 8.00pm.  
     
 

Tuesday 17th September 2002 - "THE HISTORY OF CRANLEIGH COTTAGE HOSPITAL"
Mrs Diane Davies, Vice Chairman of the League of Friends of Cranleigh Hospital, will tell us about the history of our local hospital and plans for its future.

 
   
  Tuesday 15th October 2002 - "THE MAN WHO DREW POOH"
Arthur Chandler, archivist of the Shepard archive at the University of Surrey, will tell us about the life and work of the artist E.H.Shepard, who lived in Shamley Green and is best known for his illustrations for the "Winnie the Pooh" books.
 
   
  Saturday 9th November 2002 - "SURREY LOCAL HISTORY COUNCIL ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM"  
  Held at Chertsey, this year's theme is "Surrey in the 1950's"  
   
  Tuesday 19th November 2002 - "BOTTLES AND BYGONES"
Collector David Rose will show us items from his collection of old bottles and domestic articles
 
   
 

Tuesday 17th December 2002 - "MEMBERS' EVENING''
This year Miles Thompson will tell us how we can have "FUN WITH FAMILY HISTORY
Members are also asked to bring along old family photos to put on show and the Society's Scrap Books will also be on display. Followed by coffee & mince pies.

Please note this meeting will be held at the Burrow at Sayers Croft

 
     
  Tuesday 21st January 2003 - "THE COE FAMILY OF ABINGER, WATERCRESS GROWERS"
Barry Armison, a descendant of the Coe family will tell us about the traditional crop of the Tillingbourne valley.
 
     
  Tuesday 18th February 2003 - "BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE SURREY HISTORY CENTRE"  
  A tour of the Centre in Woking to see at first hand the work of the archivists and conservators.  
     
  February 2003 - "SUPPER & QUIZ NIGHT" - (Details later)  
   
 

Tuesday 18th March 2003 - "MERTON AND THE AUGUSTINIANS"

 
  A talk by Lionel Green on the history of Merton Priory, which is particularly relevant to us, as the advowson of Ewhurst Church was held by the Priory, until the Reformation.  
     
  Tuesday 15th April 2003 - "THE SURREY DEFENCES' SURVEY "
Chris Shepheard will tell us about the numerous Second World War structures still surviving in the Surrey countryside.
 
   
  Tuesday 20th May 2003- ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Followed by 'LETTERS FROM AN OLD TIN BOX', a talk by Pam McClintock.
 
   
  June / July - This year we are hoping to have a local outing and will also be holding our annual SUMMER GARDEN LUNCH (details later).
