    Lionel Joseph ‘Milestones’

    Today, roadside milestones are often overlooked, but, as Lionel Joseph will explain, they can tell some interesting stories.

    Mike Fanya ‘Rats, Lice & History’

    An entertaining look at some of the seedier aspects of history from Ewhurst’s Mike Fanya.

  • Tuesday 15th November

    Ken Matthews ‘Victorian Ad Venture’

    Ken Matthews will tell us about the growth of advertising in the 19th century and its impact on Victorian society.

    Members’ Evening

    Geoff Harry & John White ‘Mr John Evershed, Astronomer and Ewhurst resident’ John will describe the life and times of Mr Evershed from his birth in Gomshall, his family, his education and his career as an astronomer. Geoff will use demonstrations and illustrations in an attempt to explain some of the science and astronomy that made Mr Evershed world famous amongst the scientific community.

  • Tuesday 17th January 2012

    Janet Balchin ‘Ewhurst in the Mid 19th Century’

    Janet will build up a picture of what Ewhurst was like in the mid 19th century using information from tithe and census records.

    Quiz night & Supper in The Glebe

  • Tuesday 20th March

    Dr. J M Cox ‘The History of the Royal Grammar School, Guildford’

    A talk by Dr Cox, Headmaster of this famous school.

  • Tuesday 17th April

    Professor Richard Selley ‘The History of Dorking Caves’

    Professor Selley will tell us the fascinating story of the history and geology of Dorking’s South Street ancient caves, tunnels and cellars.

    This meeting will be followed up by a visit to the caves on Saturday 21st April, when Professor Selley will be our guide. More details later.

  • Tuesday 15th May

    AGM followed by

    David Rose ‘Wartime Bombs on Guildford’

    David Rose’s illustrated talk will include a look at both the First & Second World Wars, and what is still visible today.

  • Wednesday 6th June

    Outing to Strawberry Hill House, Twickenham.

    Hazel Munro has organised a private visit to this recently restored house. Coach pick-up from Ewhurst. Full details to follow.

    Summer Garden Lunch
